½ü¾àÀëÄÚÉäºÏ¼¯New York’s Student Health Services staff are available to ensure your physical and emotional wellbeing, as well as promote healthy lifestyles among all members of our community. ½ü¾àÀëÄÚÉäºÏ¼¯Health and Wellness provides service for students through virtual visits and in-clinic care. Routine visits and follow ups can be scheduled ahead of time via phone or on your patient portal. Walk-in appointments are only accepted for emergencies such as cuts, burns, and allergic reactions.

Our health services include:

• Free assessment and treatment of illness and minor injuries, health and wellness advisement, allergy medication, and over-the-counter medication
• Vaccines and health screenings/treatments for a nominal fee
• Students can schedule an appointment to consult with a remote triage nurse between the hours of 6:30–9:30 a.m. and 5:30–7:30 p.m., Monday–Friday.
• Saturday and Sunday remote nurses are available by appointment only for non-emergent triage. After hours, on weekends and holidays, students should reach out to Safety for emergencies.
• Services requiring a Nurse Practitioner must be scheduled one week in advance. Services include physicals, birth control renewal, and general health and wellness advice.
• Students with questions about medication refills, prescription transfers, or medical records, can contact us via phone or secure message on the Patient Portal.

Health Insurance

½ü¾àÀëÄÚÉäºÏ¼¯has incorporated a mandatory annual student health insurance plan through United Health Care beginning September 1, 2022. The plan is offered to all domestic and international fulltime students. Domestic students may waive out of the health insurance plan by providing proof of current, comparable health insurance coverage through a family or individual plan. International students are not eligible to opt out and must enroll in the plan offered by CIA. Cost of insurance for students starting in the spring or summer semester will be pro-rated accordingly. Students taking the Global Cuisines and Cultures trip are encouraged to review international travel insurance options.

Important Freshman Medical Requirements

Freshman students are required to submit a complete physical examination on the mandatory ½ü¾àÀëÄÚÉäºÏ¼¯Physical Examination Form (PDF), with required immunizations, 30 days prior to Arrival Day at CIA.

This mandatory physical exam must be completed within one year, signed by a health care provider that includes vaccination documentation, and include a copy of your health insurance card and all required papers completed. You will not be permitted in class unless the complete mandatory ½ü¾àÀëÄÚÉäºÏ¼¯physical examination form and required documentation are submitted.

Medical Information/Referrals

With the exception of coverage provided by accident insurance, the cost of non-routine treatment, off-campus doctor visits, prescription medications, and vaccines will be the student’s responsibility. In the event that a student requires the services of a primary health care provider, specialist, dentist, eye doctor, etc., ½ü¾àÀëÄÚÉäºÏ¼¯Student Health Services staff can provide referral information.

Immunization Requirements

New York State Public Health Law Section 2165 and ½ü¾àÀëÄÚÉäºÏ¼¯require proof of two measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccines given on or after your first birthday. If these requirements are not met, you will need to be re-immunized. ½ü¾àÀëÄÚÉäºÏ¼¯also requires vaccination against hepatitis A. Vaccination against hepatitis B and meningitis is recommended but not required.

Your Confidentiality

Students have a right to anticipate that their relationship with ½ü¾àÀëÄÚÉäºÏ¼¯Student Health Services will be one of complete confidence. All information and records pertaining to any aspect of a student’s health are strictly confidential. Except in emergencies, information concerning the nature of illness or injury, diagnosis, and treatment plan will only be provided to legally responsible parents/guardians or designated individuals with the direct knowledge and signed consent of the student.
